Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Drainage pipe maker Keramo Steinzeug announced in September that it would cut 119 jobs at its factory in Hasselt, Limburg. 100 production line jobs are to go along with 19 jobs from management positions. The company is also cutting jobs at units in Austria and Germany but unions representing the Belgian workers are complaining that they are bearing the brunt of the restructuring. Morale was reported to already be low amongst workers after two other restructuring programmes were completed in recent years.
