Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The technology firm Hewlett-Packard plans to create 700 new jobs at its plant in Erskine near Glasgow. The company is setting up an IT service hub at its Renfrewshire facility with the help of £7m in government funding. As of 25 August 2010 no date has been given for the creation of the new jobs.
Last year HP announced it was cutting 700 manufacturing jobs at the plant and transferring the work to the Czech Republic. These jobs will be gone by October but the new posts should increase employment back to about 1,300.
