Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Celanese, a manufacturer of cigarette filters, has announced plans to shut part of a factory in Spondon with the loss of 350 jobs. Under a £8m investment instead the part making wrapping film unit will stay, saving 70 jobs. The cuts are blamed on high operating costs while most of the jobs are likely to go by the end of the year.
