Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
American medical supply manufacturer Becton Dickinson and Company has given notice to all 393 employees at its plant in Helsingborg, Sweden. 314 of these are blue collar workers and 70 are white collars. The lay offs are to begin in February 2011 and production will cease before the end of 2011. The shutting down of the plant in Helsingborg is due to the outsourcing of production to low salary countries. The company, that develops products for research and clinical laboratory activities, has 29,000 employees in over 50 countries.
