Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Paper manufacturer Holmen Paper is to cut 150 jobs at its plant in Hallstavik as a result of a notice given on June 21 2010. The company produces paper for newspapers, commercial prints, phone directories, and other printed media. As these industries have been struggling due to the increased use of IT or internet solutions, so Holmen Paper's demand has suffered. The streamlining will, according to the management, increase profitability with fewer employees producing the same volume.
Holmen Paper has restructured on several occasions in recent years. Please see the following related fact sheets for more information: 14428, 11447, 14389, 11014.
