Description
Steel manufacturing company Corus is to recruit 154 new staff at its South Yorkshire plants. The company is taking on 21 trainees and 133 new employees in steel rolling and steel manufacturing operations in Stocksbridge and Rotherham. This is the second time it has taken on new staff in 4 months, and comes a year after it had to cut staff by 2000 across the UK due to a decrease in demand. The company has however seen improvements this year and Peter Hogg, speciality steels general manager, said that recruiting trainees was an investment in the company's future which would make sure they did not face a 'skills shortage' in the future, and that "[n]ow we are in a position where we are recovering so we can strengthen the business." No details were given of when the new staff would take up their positions.
