Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Printing group Delo Tiskarna has made 280 job cuts in recent years in Ljubljana. Formerly one of the largest printing houses in Slovenia, the company owned by the Krater Group, had 330 employees in 2006; the number was reduced to only 50 by the end of 2009. The reasons for such a radical reduction of employment were partly due to the necessary internal restructuring; another reason may be high price of real estate (land) on which the print houses in Ljubljana are located. In some cases it has been more profitable for the owner to liquidate the companies and to sell the land than to continue printing activity.
