Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Electronics manufacturer Flextronics announced it will dismiss 337 workers with the relocation of its factory to Mór to Zalaegerszeg and possibly partially to China by 31 March 2011. The National Federation of Workers (MOSZ) started the consultation process at the beginning of July 2010. The region where the factory is located faces a worsening employment situation.
Flextronics Hungary has operated with a high staff turnover in recent years. At the end of 2009 Flextronics opened a new site in Sárvár creating 500 positions despite dismissing hundreds of people at the beginning of 2010. The company currently has plants in five Hungarian locations: Mor, Tab, Zalaegerszeg, Sárvár and Budapest - with around 5600 employees in total.
