Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 24 May 2010, Lohr Industrie (2000 employees worldwide), a French manufacturer and designer of truck trailers, trolleys on wheels and rail transport systems, announced that it is to cut up to 150 jobs.
After 98 redudancies in 2008, the work council was informed about a new reorganisation plan involving 150 jobs in the main group plant in Duppigheim, near Strasbourg. The management explained this decision on the grounds of the collapse of sales of cars-trailers. The collapse has been amplified by the economic crisis. Another factor is the delay in the development of new products.
