Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Chair and sofa manufacturer Capdevielle has entered into liquidation leaving 468 employees jobless in Mont-de-Marsan, south west France. The company had been in receivership since May 2009 and a deal to buy it had been on the cards but fell through and a local court decided to wind it up. A union steward at the factory complained about the lack of attention given to the workers, saying: "In France if you do not threaten to blow up a factory you are completely anonymous."
