Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Ferrania Technologies, an Italian photographic films manufacturer, is to cut 225 jobs (out of 335) at its main plant located at Cairo Montenotte, in the province of Savona. The collective dismissals procedures should start by the end of June 2010 and they should affect workers who benefited of a Wage Guarantee Fund two-year scheme. According to the company, the fall in demand doesn't allow to restore the previous workforce's level. The trade unions have requested the involvement of local and national authorities in order to avoid the job-cuts.
