Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 19 April 2010, the automotive supplier Mahle announced to cut around 800 jobs in Germany. The cuts fall as part of a restructuring programme to dismiss 1,400 workers in Western Europe as the company seeks to counter the steep decline in sales due to the economic crisis. Surviving Mahle employees in Germany are to work short-time in the second quarter of 2010. By the end of 2009, the company employed a global workforce of 43,489 employees. As of 26 April 2010, there is no further information available on which sites are affected in Germany or on the timeline of the restructuring scheme.
