On 2 March 2010, Schlecker announced the closure of all 110 drugstores in the Netherlands by the end of 2010, resulting in the loss of 600 jobs. Fierce competition among drugstore chains was blamed for the closure. Those facing dismissal have been promised a 'solid' redundancy payment.
