Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 12 April 2010, the chemical company BASF announced to cut around 500 jobs worldwide by 2013. The company stated to restructure its global pigment business, eliminating certain products. Therefore labour capacities also have to be reduced. 500 out of 2,900 jobs are to be shed before 2013. 320 jobs will be lost in Europe: mostly affected are its sites in Paisley (UK) and Grenzach (Germany). Another 90 and 80 jobs will be cut in Guaratinguetá (Brazil) as well as in Louisville and Elyria (USA).
