Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 31 March 2010, the port logistic and real estate company Hamburger Hafen und Logistik announced plans to cut 250 jobs by the end of 2010. The company has introduced a cost saving programme to fight the economic crisis. HHLA also annouced to temporarily shut down one of its three container terminals at the Hamburg port to reduce overcapacities. Furthermore one fourth of the nearly 4,000 companies employees in Hamburg will go on short-time work during 2010 as the port struggles to reverse losses in export volumes.
