Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 19 March 2010, Pfleiderer, a provider of engineered wood products, announced it will cut further 130 out of currently 5,600 jobs worldwide and 2,400 jobs in Germany, respectively, by the end of the year. The job reduction is part of a cost saving plan which has already resulted in a loss of 130 jobs. Furthermore, its location in Gschwend where around 100 employees are currently working short-time may be shut. The decision of the management is expected by the end of 2010.
