Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Up to 500 soldiers are to lose their jobs in the 2011-12 financial year as the Ministry of Defense says the Army is nearing its staffing limit of approximately 100,000 troops. 300-500 troops will be given compulsory redundancy under a process it calls Manning Control Points; this is a system which has been used to discharge more than 3000 soldiers in the past, but which has not been used since 2002. The MoD has announced that it will focus on those soldiers who have between 12 - 15 years service, will not involve those injured in combat, and that affected soldiers will benefit from a resettlement grant of about £10000. It is not yet known which troops will be affected.
