Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Bames-Sem, a world leader in the delivery of innovative electronics manufacturing services, is to cut 100 jobs. The job-cuts should involve both the Bames (Bartolini After Market Electronics Services) plant and the Sem (Services for Electronic Manufacturing) plant. The Bames-Sem plants located at Vimercate (in the province of Milan) employ 640 workers. Moreover, the company announced a two-year scheme of Wage Guarantee Fund, which will involve all its employees. In the last two years the Bames-Sem workers were already involved in Wage Guarantee Fund schemes in order to avoid lay-offs in a situation of market shrinkage. The Bames-Sem is one of the leaders in the hi-tech industrial district of Vimercate. Sem is a leader in Italy in the market of the electronic services. Bames is a leader in the after market services, such as customization, distribution, installation and maintenance either on the consumer products or on the own products.
