Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Nottinghamshire County Council is to cut up to 2,500 jobs over the next three years as part of savings plans. The council aims to keep compulsory redundancies to a minimum. Local government union Unison has accused the council of making politically, not financially motivated cuts but according to the Council, the cuts were vital. The need for 1,500 cuts was originally announced in March but the extra losses were announced in August owing to a diminishing council budget. A voluntary redundancy scheme was set to be launched in August in order to make the first wave of the cuts.
In October the council confirmed that it was to cut 3000 jobs, and that 400 of the jobs lost would be from Childrens Services.
