Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Cardiff council is to make 300 job cuts, as part of a drive to make a £14m saving. It revealed the plans in its draft budget for 2010/11, but says it will avoid compulsory redundancies by utilising natural turnover, early retirement, voluntary severance and not filling existing vacancies. The large majority of job cuts will not be in the front line, but in the areas of administration and management. Plans to raise council tax were also unveiled, but council leaders have stressed they will continue to invest in city services.
Update 15th October 2010
Cardiff Council has confirmed that it has cut 238 jobs, and expects to cut a similar number next year. The council has predicted a larger than initially expected budget gap of £90m over the next three years as a result of budget cuts.
