Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
In March 2009, Linamar Hungary, a car parts and agricultural machine manufacturer, announced the dismissal of 709 workers (out of 1,770) in Orosháza. The company also sought governmental help and shortened weekly working time. Linamar had already reduced its workforce by 10% at the end of the fourth quarter of 2008. There is no information on when the dismissals will be implemented by.
Linamar, which is part of the Canadian company Linamar Corporation, is a supplier to major car manufacturers like GM, Ford and Chrysler and was harshly hit by the recession.
