Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Grammer, a German producer of car and bus seats, has settled an agreement with the works council to cut 240 jobs in Germany by end of January 2010. This will affect white-collar employees from two plants in Bavaria. Since the beginning of the recession in September 2008 Grammer has cut a total of 2,800 jobs worldwide. Currently, Grammer employs about 1,800 people in Germany and 7,000 worldwide.
