Description
A £17 million investment is to create 160 jobs at a paper mill in North East Wales. Helsinki based UPM is to open a materials recovery facility at its paper mill in Shotton, Flintshire which is expected to be completed by January 2011. 150 extra people will also be employed in the construction phase. The project is to receive a grant of £1.7 million from the Welsh Assembly Government.
Shotton general manager David Ingham said "Building a materials recovery facility at Shotton...enables us to provide solutions to our partners in paper recycling and meet UK market needs in processing recyclable materials."
Deputy First Minister and Economy Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones said: "I am delighted that we have been able to support this latest investment, which represents an important boost for the economy of north east Wales and will deliver long term benefits for the region."
No details were given on the number currently employed by the company.
