Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
A.C.G. Deurne, a company employing mainly people with mental or physical disabilities, will dismiss more than 100 people by the end of June 2010. According to the director, collective dismissals were unavoidable because one of A.C.G.'s main customers will relocate its business activities to Eastern Europe. The company carries out numerous activities such as bookbinding, distribution of periodicals and packaging. It is also running a gardening department and a call centre. 270 of its 330 employees have a mental or physical disability.
