Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 8 December 2009, the automobile supplier Bosch announced the reduction of 350 jobs at its site in Salzgitter by the end of 2012. The company currently employs around 1,950 employees in Salzgitter. Out of these 1,250 are working in manufacturing. Bosch stated that the job cuts were to be realised in a socially acceptable manner, e.g. by offering partial-retirement schemes and compensation payments. The works council has announced not to accept these plans.
