Description
The Defense Support Group has announced plans to close its military aircraft maintenance base in South Wales resulting in the loss of 340 jobs. The move is blamed on a decreased contract activity by 70% following the end of a contract to maintain the ageing VC10 aircraft. The Ministry of Defence has begun consultation with the unions and it is hoped the jobs could be lost through voluntary redundancies. However, compulsory job losses are not be ruled out. 200 jobs will go within the next year and the rest by June 2013.
