Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Management at MD Verre, a company operating in the glass industry, announced the cut of 89 jobs at its site in Ghlin. The announcement was made on 25 November 2009 at an extraordinary works council meeting. According to management, this is due to low demand as a consequence of the economic crisis. There are also concerns about the quality of MD Verre's products on the site of customers and trade union representatives. When the second official notification of redundancy came in February 2010 the number of job losses had been reduced to 73.
