Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Belgian subsidiary company of the Sanoma group located at Diegem, publisher of 25 magazines, is to cut 60 of its 560 employees. Management initially announced a restructuring plan involving early retirements, voluntary redundancy as well as the possibility of further redundancies last June designed to save 12.5m euro. Subsequent social dialogue with the unions has not been successful, according to the company, which is proceeding with the job cuts. (UPDATED 26/11/09)
