Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Sony Ericsson announced the dismissal of 130 employees with the closure of its division of software development. The department will now focus on sales and marketing, which in addition to the aforementioned dismissals will result in the discontinuation of cooperation with approximately 100 consultants.
The dismissals are part of a global restructuring programme initiated last year, which involve the loss of 2,000 jobs globally in an attempt to save SEK 4.1 billion. Sony Ericsson has been severely hit by the recession, with decreased sales and great financial losses. After these waves of recent dismissals, the Kista department has gone from 1,000 to 40 employees.
