Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The University of Stirling has made 130 support staff redundant. The cuts have been implemented by voluntary means and they are part of wider cost-cutting plans aimed at reducing the budget by £4.4m. Senior managers have warned that further compulsory redundancies in early 2010 cannot be ruled out and the unions fear that "at least" 174 workers could go, including cleaners and IT support for students.
