Description
The shipbuilding and construction group Hegemann will cut 250 jobs at its shipyards in Wolgast and Stralsund. This was announced on 10 Febuary 2010.
On 13 November 2009, Hegemann had announced to cut 400 jobs. A spokesperson of Hegemann stated that the downsizing was part of a restructuring programme to enhance the company's competitiveness. The job reduction was to be carried out in a socially acceptable manner until spring 2010. The number of job cuts was subsequently reduced because the company decided to make use of short-time work instead.
Both shipyards currently employ a total of around 2000 employees.
