Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 2 September 2009, the plastic manufacturer Gaudlitz announced to cut 100 out of 370 jobs in Germany. Gaudlitz is an affiliate of the chemical producer Wasag. Gaudlitz' plastic components are used in the automobile industry. The company suffers from a strong drop in sales. Therefore, it stated to have exhausted all options but to reduce staff. The announced staff reduction shall be realised in a socially acceptable way.
