Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Chip producer NXP announced on 8 September 2009 that it will close its production plant in Nijmegen, resulting in the loss of 125 to 175 jobs. These job cuts follow a major restructuring operation implemented in 2008, which resulted in the loss of 1,300 jobs across the country and 4,500 worldwide.
The Dutch authorities applied for aid from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) and it is currently being implemented.
