Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The German multinational Schott, a special glass manufacturer, announced plans to cut up to 300 jobs in Germany. 90 jobs shall be shed at its new manufacturing plant in Mainz to focus manufacturing on special optical glass. Additionally, 100 jobs at Grünenplan (glass for spectacles) and 100 at Schott Lithotec (semiconductor industry) at Jena shall be cut. According to FAZ, the figures are valid and most probably will not be changed by current negotiations with the works council which basically refers to the social plan.
