Description
The second municipality in Denmark, Frederikshavn Kommune in nothern Jutland, has announced it has to turn to mass redundancies. The municipality announced on 24-09-2009 that 200 employees will be made redundant due to necessary savings in the budget. The municipality will have to save 15 million Euros. In order to protest against this measure, mentally disabled people and their relatives together with employees in the social psychiatric department went in torchlight procession to the city council meeting.Union members of HK, instead, demonstrated on the city hall square. The two largest companies in Frederikshavn, Danish Crown and MAN Diesel have also fired hundreds of employees during the last three months.
