Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Mura, Slovenia's largest producer of wearing apparel products, will reduce its workforce by 2639 out of 3300. The company is located in Murska Sobota in the least developed part of Slovenia.
Mura has experienced economic problems and numerous internal restructuring processes since 2002. The situation has been worsened by a sharp drop in orders due to the current economic downturn. In October 2009, Mura declared the bankruptcy and all 2639 employees will lose their job. Most of the remaining jobs are linked to subcontracting work for Hugo Boss.
The Slovenian authorities applied for aid from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) and it is currently being implemented.
