Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
French solar power firm Solairedirect, which specializes in photovoltaics, has announced the creation of a factory in the Poitou-Charentes region and the addition of 80 new jobs in the short term and another 140 in the long term. The new plant will be completed in 2011 and will specialize in the production of crystalline photovoltaic panels. No financial details about the investment have been disclosed.
Solairedirect has chosen to build its plant in Poitou-Charentes because the regional authorities have an ambitious plan for developing the local solar power sector. In particular, the region plans to have an installed capacity of 270 Megawatt by 2015. The Ministry for Industry has given the planning permission to the project.
