Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Finnish combine Rautaruukk is closing down its units in Hässleholm and Oskarström, Sweden, and therefore will dismiss 142 employees. The reason is that they will focus their competences and their future resources to the growth areas in Central Europe and China. "If you want to be successful in China, you have to have your manufacture and your sales office within the country. It is too time consuming to export from Europe", is a statement from the company. The two units will close by the end of 2009. The company cannot give any information as to whether the whole units are to be moved or if parts are going to be sold out to interested parties.
