Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
In May 2009, ST Ericsson in Lund, a sister company to Sony Ericsson, gave notice to 200 employees and 230 consultants. In late August they announced that they notice will affect less than 50 of the employees, but the 230 external consultants have to leave the company as soon as their contract run out (in 1-3 months). Until the summer 2010 Sony Ericsson will save 580 million Euro globally. Since half of the work force in Sweden is situated in Lund there is a risk for further notices in Lund as well as other locations.
