Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 21 August 2009 construction company Heijmans announced that during 2009 the total amount of job cuts in 2009 would rise to 1,100. At the end of 2008, Heijmans had already announced the loss of 450 jobs. The actual loss of jobs was higher: 700 (see factsheet 12227). In the second half of 2009 this went up to 1,100. Futhermore, Heijnmans announced it will try to sell all its foreign activies. The company, one of the largest in construction in the Netherlands, has been hit hard by the crisis.
The Dutch authorities applied for aid from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) and it is currently being implemented.
