Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The French court of Colmar in east of France has placed French auto supplier Staufen Plastics under liquidation. 159 employees will lose their jobs between August and November 2009.
The court has allowed the company to continue its activity until 10 November 2009, in order to give time to its sole customer, US automotive components maker Johnson Controls, to find another supplier.
Staufen Plastics, which produces composite parts for sun visors, employs 159. Its revenue, which stood at EUR 22 million in 2008, dropped by half since the beginning of 2009.
The company filed for bankruptcy in March 2009 and did not succeed in finding a buyer.
