Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 27 July 2009, the forklift truck manufacturer Jungheinrich announced to cut 500 jobs at its production sites in Norderstedt and Moosburg. However, talks with the works council on the matter are still ongoing. Timelines for the job reduction are not yet finalised. The new job reduction scheme follows Jungheinrich's downsizing of 300 jobs at the beginning of the year. Job cuts are a reaction to the lasting decline in demand for the company's products. The company employed 4,884 employees in March 2009.
