Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The French telecommunication company, Alcatel-Lucent, is to cut 153 jobs on its two Belgian sites located in Antwerp and Namur. The company lost in 2007 3.5 billions and 5.2 billions in 2008 and is now forced to reduce its costs. The least cost-effective departments will be the most concerned by the restructuring including the maintenance services. The representatives of the company are currently in a negotiation process with the trade unions to decide about the redundant workers.
