Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Carrera Optyl, a manufacturer of spectacle frames, sun glasses and ski goggles which is partly owned by the Italian Safilo group, is to cut between 200 and 350 jobs in the second half of 2009. The cuts are blamed on the reduction of orders and no prospective of improvement. The company is located in Ormož in the Podravska region and currently employs 1,287 workers. It already dismissed 147 people in April 2009 due to decline in orders.
