Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 22 July 2009, Siemens announced its plans to cut 120 jobs in its business segment building technologies. The department "Fire Safety & Security Products" was to be reorganised whose main products include: fire alarms and other alarm devices. Headquarters of the mentioned department is to move from Karlsruhe (Germany) to Sweden. 120 jobs are to be lost in Germany. Another 180 jobs are to be lost outside Germany. Siemens employed around 13,300 employees in Germany in 2008. In the current case, first talks with employee representatives were held. No timelines for the restructuring process were announced.
