Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Prevent, a Slovenian manufacturer of car-seat covers, based in the Koroška region, is to cut its workforce by 169. The cuts are a result of a reduction of orders of approximately 40% from company's traditional customers. By the end of July 2009, 119 employees from entities in Slovenj Gradec and Radlje ob Dravi (both in Koroška region) will lose jobs, while in August another 50 employees from Slovenj Gradec unit will be laid off. Altogether, the number of employees will be reduced by 169, much less than originally planned (300-400; see factsheet ID 14063). The lower reduction of employment is due to the closure of a production unit in Croatia resulting in some production returning to Slovenia.
