Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Croda International, a chemicals manufacturer based in Wilton, Teeside, will close its plant, leading to 125 job losses.
It announced that without the local supplier, Dow Chemical Company, its plant was no longer economically viable because no other UK plant produces ethylene oxide. The Unite union warned the cuts at Dow could have a devastating effect by rippling across the industry, leading to further redundancies. The union identified Croda's supplier Dow as a strategic business for the UK as it provides a vital product to the chemical sector.
