Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 8 July 2009, König & Bauer, a firm that manufactures printing presses, reported on its current restructuring programme. While the company had already announced job cuts in spring 2009, it now clarified that around 700 out of 3,500 employees had left the company. Amongst them was 400 staff at its site in Radebeul (Saxony). At the latter site, job downsizing is to be continued. By the end of 2009, employee numbers are to drop from the current 1,700 to 1,410 staff. Further job cuts are planned at other sites and other segments of the company. However, detailed numbers were so far not released. The management board announced the release of further information after its talks with employee representatives and unions.
