Faced with declining orders for engines, the management of H. Cegielski Poznań will cut 497 jobs out of 1,300 by late 2009. This is the result of an agreement between the company's board of directors and two trade unions. The company also plans a stay-at-home programme whereby employees will not come to work but will continue to draw 60% of their regular pay. H. Cegielski Poznań produces two-stroke diesel engines for ships and power generation plants, air blowers, and a range of compressors.
The Polish authorities applied for aid from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) and the application is currently being implemented.
