Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Steklarska nova, a producer of glassware, has announced its bankruptcy, leading to the dismissal of 248 workers in Rogaška Slatina, Slovenia.
Steklarska nova produced a variety of products, including crystalline (coloured and clear), stemware, barware, giftware collection (vases, bowls, candlesticks, decanters, pitchers, doses, etc.), engraved cups, aware plates, unique items and limited hand made editions. The company was located in Rogaška Slatina in the Savinjska region and employed 248 people. It had been in severe trouble for some time, but reduced orders in the last six months eventually pushed the company into bankruptcy. On May 22, the beginning of the bankruptcy procedure was announced, and all workers received employee notices.
The company is now up for sale but its future is uncertain. If a strategic investor can be found, approximately 150 workers may be reemployed.
